Ossentra – Precision was never a straight line!

Majid Roshanfar, Dr. Dale Podolsky, and the Ossentra team at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) submitted an unmet need focused on improving bone-cutting tools for minimally invasive craniosynostosis surgery and were recognized with a $5,000 MDDC Discovery Sprint Award.

Pediatric skull surgery is overdue for innovation. Each year, thousands of infants with craniosynostosis undergo long, invasive cranial vault remodeling procedures that have remained largely unchanged for decades. Ossentra, a spinout of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), is rebuilding the surgical toolkit from the ground up. Its lead asset is a reusable, articulating handheld bone-cutting instrument that delivers precision and dexterity inside small incisions that conventional rigid tools cannot match. Developed at the Posluns Centre for Image-Guided Innovation and Therapeutic Intervention (PCIGITI) and advancing toward FDA clearance through the Class II 510(k) pathway, Ossentra aims to make the most complex pediatric craniofacial surgeries faster, safer, and far less traumatic for the youngest patients in the operating room.
