PocketLab Testing
Rawan Sakalla, Co-Founder and CEO of PocketLab Testing, and her team from uOttawa submitted an unmet need focused on micronutrient testing and were recognized with MDDC Discovery Sprint Award ($5000).Micronutrient deficiencies remain a persistent but under-addressed challenge in preventive care. Although these conditions are clinically manageable, they are frequently identified reactively, in part because testing depends on centralized, appointment-based laboratory pathways. This delays the identification of micronutrient status abnormalities and limits routine monitoring across care settings, especially for patients facing limited access to primary care, mobility limitations, inflexible work schedules, caregiving responsibilities, or out-of-pocket costs associated with repeated visits.
